About Routing Intelligence

Routing Intelligence™ provides network engineers with detailed real-time monitoring and analysis of Internet traffic. The Routing Intelligence services sample and correlate valuable networking data from the Internet’s global routing tables. Careful analysis of this routing data with respect to time and geography reveals the root cause of changing data routes, network hijackings, outages, withdrawals and more, in easy-to-read tabular and graph-base visual formats. With this intelligence, network events are identified and resolved before customers are affected. Routing Intelligence services can be accessed from any computer with Internet connectivity and do not require any installation or configuration of additional hardware, software or infrastructure upgrades.

Routing Intelligence’s base service provides real-time measurement and monitoring of interdomain routing information from numerous worldwide sources. Three additional options are available:

  • History Option extends the base Routing Intelligence solution by providing historical data back to January 2002—providing detailed forensic analysis of past events to determine their root causes
  • Alarms Option provides real-time alarms when mission-critical networks become unreachable, IP addresses are hijacked, global routes are unstable or routing policies are violated
  • XML Option allows the user to export network analysis data from the current view of the Routing Intelligence application into easy-to-read XML format for use in external Web-based applications or other monitoring and analysis tools

Highlights

  • Real-time measurement and monitoring

Combines interdomain routing information from dozens of sources worldwide
  • Forensic capabilities

Replays traffic from previous weeks, months or years to explore trends and alarms patterns
  • Multi-resolution analysis

Instantly provides views of routing information that are both:
    • spatially diverse (correlating across multiple sources)
    • temporally diverse (correlating across timescales from seconds to months)
  • Analytics and drill down

Displays patterns or route advertisements, withdrawals, route changes, outages, table sizes—and more, in easy-to-read tabular and graph-based visual formats
  • Browser-like interface

    • Allows engineers to follow hyperlinks to explore different aspects of an evolving situation
    • Allows engineers to save bookmarks to important phenomena and to perform collaborative investigation of the same data via e-mail or instant messaging
  • Simple to provision and use

    • Client installs in seconds on any workstation or laptop running Java under Microsoft Windows, Linux or Solaris
    • Requires no super-user or administrative privileges to install or operate
    • Usable anywhere Internet connectivity is available: at work, at home or on the road
